The photographer and activist in the oppositional GDR peace movement has been a professor of artistic photography at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig since 1993. Tina Bara's work has been shown in the exhibition "Geschlossene Gesellschaft - Künstlerische Fotografie in der DDR 1949-1989" at Berlinische Galerie. Photographs by Tina Bara, sometimes referred to as the "Nan Goldin of the GDR", were shown in 2019 in the exhibition "Restless Bodies - East German Photography 1980-1989" at the Rencontres de la photographie in Arles and in the exhibition "Von Ferne. Images of the GDR" at the Villa Stuck in Munich.
