The master student of Werner Tübke and Bernhard Heisig was co-organizer of the "1. Leipziger Herbstsalon" in 1984. Works by Frieder Heinze have also been shown  in the important GDR art exhibition "Behind the Mask" at the Museum Barberini in Potsdam in 2018. In 2020, Frieder Heinze was represented in the exhibition "Ich Du Wir - Bildnisse in der DDR" at the Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt Oder
